Day tours in Barcelona

Barcelona, second largest city on Spain, is one of the world’s leading tourist centers. The history of Barcelona dates back to Roman times. Day tours in Barcelona give a glimpse into the rich history of the city.

The Gothic Quarter is one area that can be seen during day tours in Barcelona. Located in the center of the old city are buildings that date back to Roman and medieval times.

Seen throughout the city are the works of Antoni Gaudi, an architect. His most famous work, the Sangrada Familia is an important stop for day tours in Barcelona. This immense church has been under construction since 1882 and is funded by private donations.

Day tours in Barcelona offer the tourist the opportunity to visit the Picasso Museum. One of the many fine museums in the city, it houses works from Picasso’s blue and pink periods.

The Waterfront, another destination for day tours in Barcelona, is an area where old and new has been merged with great success. The dock warehouses of the old port and the Gothic shipyards were remodeled into a recreational area. Nearby are the Olympic Village, created to house the athletes for the 1992 Summer Olympics, and the Columbus Monument. The monument was constructed in 1888 and marks the site where Columbus returned to Spain after his first voyage to America.

Park Guell is possibly the most famous park in Barcelona. Originally the site of an unsuccessful housing development in the early 1900’s, it is now a municipal garden. The main terrace contains one of the focal points, a long bench in the shape of a sea serpent. Named an UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park is a major stop for many day tours in Barcelona.
